Reoccuring Yeast Infections

Yeast infection is generally a simple medical condition that requires simple and straightforward treatment options. However, because of external vectors and poor management, the simple medical problem can become a nagging and recurrent yeast infection.

Right at the heart of the problem is our failure to address the underlying and root causes of yeast infection and the improper and unsupervised use of antifungal preparations. Reoccuring yeast infections are easily turning out to be a real medical concern.

Major Causes of Reoccuring Yeast Infections

Improper use of prescription and OTC antifungal medications is considered as the main culprit for constant yeast infections. This group of antifungal medications only resolves the symptoms associated with the infection and not the root cause. The main cause of the infection is the overrunning of beneficial bacteria as a result of the overgrowth and proliferation of candida fungus.

This condition gives rise to the emergence of drug resistant pathogenic organism which leads to the increasing cases of constant yeast infection. This is also an indication of the urgency for the development of new generation antifungal medications that are more powerful since the present crop of medications are being rendered ineffective with the emergence of resistant types of the candida fungus.

Effective Treatment of Constant Yeast Infection

Before you even start with any treatment of yeast infection, it is important that you are sure that what you have is really yeast infection and not the other types of infection that only manifest similar signs and symptoms as that of yeast infection. Misdiagnosis and improper use of antifungal medications especially when you don’t actually need them will render the drug useless because of the emergence of resistant pathogenic organisms. This condition shall give rise to constant yeast infections.

You may use antifungal medications that are available over the counter to resolve the symptoms that are associated with the fungal infection. However, the use of these medications won’t have any effect on the root cause of the infection and these medications won’t have any effect in resolving the recurrent yeast infection.

An effective management and eradication of recurrent yeast infection must involve the following:

Focus on the root cause of the infection

For instance, if you are able to confirm that your recurring or chronic yeast infection is attributable to your taking of contraceptive pills, then you may have to consider other birth control methods. Contraceptive pills can alter and disrupt the hormonal level and normal pH which makes it favorable for opportunistic organism to grow and proliferate.

You must also avoid wearing tight underwear and wet swimming suits for longer periods of time and as much as possible use clothes that are breathable such as those that are made of pure cotton. Use antibacterial drugs with extreme discretion as this can lead to an imbalance in the normal flora of good bacteria and pathogenic organisms.

Follow a Healthy Diet

Yeast thrives on fermented foods, fungus, vinegar and sugar. If these are not present in the food that you eat, the yeast will not grow and proliferate to a point that it overruns the good and beneficial bacteria. Thus, it is extremely important that we eliminate processed food items in our diet. This shall include white rice, white flour and any food items that are laden with sugar and similar ingredients.
